Finally Here

I think it's safe to say that spring has finally arrived in the Catoctin Mountains. Our trees are budding, flowers are popping, and everything is fresh and new. I absolutely love this time of year and the rebirth of dormant plant life. Below are photographs of spring's arrival in our yard.

Eye Dazzlers

The long winter has us starved for the colors spring is finally starting to provide. Bright yellow forsythia and periwinkle blue vincas are early bloomers that dazzle us with their pretty colors. We even have one tiny pale yellow tulip that opened today ... to be enjoyed before the deer gobble it up ... tulips are one of their spring favorites, too!

Slow but sure ...

It's still cold outside, and it feels a lot more like winter than springtime, but more and more indications that the spring season is here are coming forth each day. Today, our peach tree is in full pink bloom, and it's very pretty against the pale gray sky.

Flicker Flock

For the past couple of days, we've been visited by a flock of flickers in late afternoon. They've found some sort of grub in our lawn that is seemingly irresistible ... at least very tasty to a flicker!

Here are a few of the photos I took of individuals from the flock.
